Testing and Assessment

PDELA is committed to helping parents and students move through the material at a pace the student has never before experienced. Students are supported by their teachers and the provided resources to master their education. Testing and assessment allow all parties to monitor the student's progress and determine the appropriate deadlines needed for the individual student to advance.

Testing takes place in the following ways:

Pennsylvania System of Schools Assessment
The Pennsylvania System of Schools Assessment (or PSSA) is a standardized test administered in all Pennsylvania public schools.  Students take the Writing PSSA while enrolled in grades 5, 8 and 11.  Math and Reading are administered during grades 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, and 11.  The Science PSSA test is also given to students in grades 4, 8 and 11.

Online Curriculum
Scantron tests are administered for Reading, Language Arts, Math and Science. As students move through the curriculum, the curriculum allows the parent and supporting teacher to easily monitor individual progress, using comprehensive, standards-based quizzes and tests.

Text-Based Curriculum
For students entering grades 4-8, PDELA conducts a thorough evaluation of all new students to ensure proper placement, which is based on the last successful grade level completed, which is determined by the report card or transcript from their last school district.

• Kindergarten
Each curriculum contains 160 lessons. A progress sheet accompanies each lesson to gauge the student's understanding of the material.
• Grades 1-8
The structure encompasses 152 lessons, eight test lessons, and an additional 16 review lessons.

Scantron Testing
Scantron's Performance Series provides students with individualized tests. The online test adjusts automatically to each student's ability level, generating questions that will appropriately challenge each student. Scantron tests provide results immediately so that teachers can impact instruction and properly asses the enrichment and remediation needs of a student. The test will be administered two times per year to provide teachers with the data necessary to provide individualized data driven instruction.
